Vase of Flowers No. 8 is a large-scale antique paper collage that transforms forgotten ephemera into a celebration of everyday beauty.  “Paper ephemera” is what collectors call the materials that I use in my collages.  It’s ephemeral written documents that were never meant to last, but somehow did.  

There is a whole subculture of people who trade this paper like any other antique.  I actually have a paper dealer who supplies me with my ephemera.

The vase is interesting because it is made from the rolls of paper used in player pianos.  I often ask if people can identify what the paper is, but no one ever guesses right!
